Moonlight Poem

Moonlight Poem

by Sandy Dimiterchik

Twilight shines from the moon above.
A child sighs from the sight.
The Mississippi waters ebb
softly around me.
As I walk in the night
the lullaby of wind caresses
my poor tired heart,
loosening tears from the frozen well.

The tired, worn lines
around my eyes
become invisible
as I become
a girl
again
in the moonlight.
